This new-build project for a mixed use retail and student accommodation project is sited directly adjacent to the main campus of the University of Sunderland. Our client approached us to submit this project for planning approval due to our successful renovation and conversion of the former Joplings department store into student accommodation.
The design of the project splits the student accommodation into two blocks with a stepped form to respect the neighbouring properties. The provision of green spaces and retail units on the ground floor are intended to ensure that a lively streetscape is maintained.
